Description

The history of motoring, although comparatively brief in time, is certainly long in terms of danger, adventure, excitement, brilliant design, inventive genius and ambition, and frequent examples of unintentional but magnificent comedy. The whole story is told and fully illustrated in this book.

Great cars of both European and American makes are shown in the 189 superb renderings by Pierre Dumont, and in the 56 pages of photographs which vividly portray what life was like for the early motorist at home and abroad.

These candid, spontaneous pictures, taken on the spot, bring back the thrills of great international races and cross-country tours over highways and byways; the tension of traffic jams involving men, dogs, sheep, and horses; the gaiety of implausible outings and hilarious misadventures. In addition to the more conventional vehicles, there are examples of individual enterprise in the form of cars with wicker bodies, four-wheeled motorcycles, and other devices which somehow mysteriously never became popular.

Large format hardback in generally very good condition for age, blue boards good with only minor bumping. Inside very clean. Dust jacket a little scruffy with ragged edges and one or two minor repaired tears. Some browning/sunning primarily to spine leaking to edges.
