Description
A Practical treatise on the construction of modern motor cars, steam, petrol, electric and petrol-electric. Cassell London. Vols 1-2 1905. Volume 3 1906. Special edition enlarged and for subscription. Publishers half maroon leather covers with attractive gilt decorated spines, spines slightly scuffed at ends, volume two spine has a tear to top but intact. Tight binds and very clean pages throughout. A nice example of a rare set of books.
The book was first published in 1900. The first English edition of 1901 was rewritten by Hasluck and provided many new illustrations. In 1903 the second English edition was issued which makes up the bulk of Vols 1-2. These were extensively revised with only 300 of the 832 pages having come from the first edition and 500 new illustrations. This special edition (ie the 3rd) added to the second an appendix and new illustrations and an entirely new 3rd volume (456 illus), confined to descriptions of ‘petrol pleasure cars obtainable in Great Britain’.
