Description
The many thousands of visitors who flock every year to Beaulieu Abbey and its fabulous collection of historic motor vehicles are witnesses not only to the present Lord Montagu’s dedication to his aim of setting up a national transport museum, but also to the development of a family tradition of devotion to the promotion of mechanical transport in every form.
In his book Lord Montagu tells how his father became one of the most influential pioneers of mechanical transport, championing the motor-car in its earliest and most difficult days and doing as much or more than any other man to ensure its acceptance.
Lord Montagu goes on to describe how, in his father’s tradition, he has fought for the preservation of early vehicles, founding and building up his museum from a single specimen to its present strength of 250 machines of all kinds; from cars, motor bicycles and commercial vehicles to bicycles. Each is fully described, and is also listed with full technical details.
