The Horch cars were the best-selling cars in the German Empire of the 1930s in the upper class. The company, founded in Zwickau in 1904 by August Horch, only built passenger cars with eight-cylinder engines from 1927, of which more than 13,900 respectively respectively. 850 with up to 5 litre in-line engines and from 1933 more than 11,600 Horch 830/930 with smaller V-engines.

Horch passenger cars were by far the market leader in front of the Mercedes or Maybach cars and the Horch 600/670, in addition to the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8, the only German passenger cars with a twelve-cylinder engine.
